RNAz (Washietl et al., 2005) combines a comparative approach (scoring conservation of secondary structure) with the observation that ncRNAs are thermodynamically more stable than expected by chance. Using sequences conserved in at least human, mouse, rat and dog, over 35,000 structured elements were identified in the human genome.
